About this piece

This glass dreidel set brings three small handmade glass dreidels to your Hanukkah table. They are made to be looked at, not spun hard: set them next to the menorah and they catch every candle.

What it means

A dreidel carries four Hebrew letters: nun (נ), gimel (ג), hey (ה) and shin (ש). Together they stand for Nes gadol haya sham (נס גדול היה שם), a great miracle happened there. The miracle is the oil in the rededicated Temple: one day's worth that burned for eight.

Size and materials

  • Material: glass
  • Set of 3
  • Size: 1.4 to 1.6 in tall, 1 in wide (3.5 to 4 × 2.5 cm)
  • Decorative, not a toy. Fragile.

Each one is about the size of a walnut and sits easily in the palm of your hand.

Who it is for

A host gift for the first night, a small present for a grandmother who sets a beautiful holiday table, or a thank-you for a teacher. Keep them on a shelf out of reach of small children. Order by November 18 to have them before the first candle on Friday, December 4.

The verse that goes with it: “Nes gadol haya sham: a great miracle happened there.”

Care: Dust with a soft cloth. Handle with care: it is glass. Keep the set out of reach of small children.

The story behind it

Three small dreidels by the menorah, catching the light.

The candles are lit and the blessings are done. The kids are on the floor with plastic dreidels and a pile of chocolate coins, shouting gimel.

Up on the windowsill, next to the menorah, three glass ones sit still. They are not for the game. They are for the grown-ups who remember spinning one as a child, and for the candlelight that passes through them. Nes gadol haya sham: a great miracle happened there.

Before you order

How do you play dreidel?
Each player spins in turn. Nun: nothing. Gimel: take the pot. Hey: take half. Shin: put one in. With glass dreidels, play gently or keep them for display.
Can I return it?
Yes, within 30 days of delivery, unused and in its original packaging.
Why do some dreidels have a different letter?
In Israel, most dreidels swap the shin (ש) for a pe (פ), for Nes gadol haya po: a great miracle happened here.
Are they safe for children?
They are decorative glass, not toys. Keep them out of reach of small children and give the kids a wooden or plastic dreidel for the game.
What if one arrives broken?
They ship in reinforced packaging. If anything arrives broken, send us a photo within 14 days and a real person will reply within 1 business day.
Can I ship it as a gift?

Yes. Enter their name and address as the shipping address at checkout. The tracking link comes to you.

Do you ship outside the US?

Not yet. For now we ship to the United States only, free and tracked.
